Hello Friends! Winter is upon us here in New Mexico. Yesterday we delivered over 100 pillowcases to the border shelters for the children seeking asylum with their families. These snuggly pillowcase themes include dancing snowflake penguins, fishing winter polar bears, friendly jungle animals, smiling Christmas cactus, and so much more!
We have delivered 300 of the planned 500 pillowcases, so we are way ahead of schedule :-). With heartfelt gratitude for the warmth, smiles, and good cheer you are bringing to these children at a vulnerable time. "You are loved!!" Wishing you joy and meaning during this holiday season, Julie and Matt
Hello Friends! I'm delighted to share with you that we are sending 90 pillowcases to the shelters at the border to be shared with the children passing through. That is 90 more smiles, warm welcomes, and reminders to each child that he/she is loved.
And...we purchased enough fabric this past week to make the next 200! We are busy beginning the next batch, with our own smiles and warm wishes poured into each pillowcase. A heartfelt thanks from us, Julie and Matt, for your generosity in supporting this project. "You are loved!"
One of our generous donors wrote, "Every child no matter what the circumstances deserves a safe place to sleep and to feel loved. I am thrilled to be able to donate to this Pillowcase Project." We are so grateful to all of you for understanding the why's behind this project and for your generosity!
Thanks to your generous donations, we have purchased enough fabric for the next 100 pillowcases! We will get busy making them and send what we can in August's delivery south. Just imagine the smiles and heartfelt yumminess passed on to these little ones - singing daisies, friendly dinos, giddy monsters, and more!!
These pillowcases will be delivered to several different border organizations / shelters that provide support for families seeking asylum legally. These include Colores United, Unitarian Universalist Silver City Fellowship, Border Partners, and others.
During their three-day stay at the shelter, each child and mother with a newborn receives a pillowcase to use and then take with them on their journey. It is a small but powerful reminder that they are loved and not alone. We are all interconnected in our shared humanity.
