Pillowcases4Love

As Autumn breezes in, our pillowcases are flying out the door! Over 150 children received our pillowcases during the past month. Some of these went to Consuelo's Place, where Valerie (resident) and Jonathan (staff) were delighted to show off one of their favorites. 

In addition, we have a new venue, Youth Shelters and Family Services (YSFS) who received our pillowcases for the first time. YSFS "delivers life-changing solutions to homeless, runaway and in-crisis youth in Northern New Mexico. YSFS provides shelter and address health, safety, education and workforce opportunities so they can achieve lifetime independence." Their programs are remarkable and include a Youth Emergency Shelter, a Transitional Living program, a Street Outreach program, a Food Pantry, and more! We are delighted that those youth who receive our pillowcases will have a touchstone reminding them that "you are loved."

Pillowcases4Love has a new venue to bring love and comfort to children having a difficult time. We are now delivering our beautiful, snuggly  pillowcases to Solace Sexual Assault Services, "a state-of-the-art facility providing all services under one roof for those who have experienced sexual violence or child abuse." 

In addition to receiving their very own snuggly pillowcase, the children benefit from being with Betty (black lab in photo), a highly-trained service dog who provides love, support, and empathy. Betty was raised and trained by Assistance Dogs of the West (ADW), another volunteer program Julie participates in. Betty's handler, Jackie, has raised several very successful ADW service dogs. Our immense gratitude to Jackie, Betty, and all of the excellent staff at Solace for the work that they do.

And yes, Betty was quite pleased that the pillowcase Jackie chose to show off featured pups and paws!!  

Greetings! Mathew and I have been busy creating dozens of new pillowcases to gift to children in need in El Paso and beyond. We are offering the children many fun options to choose from such as Hello Kitty, the Charlie Brown gang, leaping frogs and monkeys, Bluey in the garden, happy pup faces, ladybugs with strawberries, and so many more! 

Each is a reminder (in English and now Spanish!) that they are loved and cherished, and we hope these little life rafts help them navigate the difficulties they are experiencing. It is our way of giving each child a big hug that they can take with them and call their very own.

A couple of our donors have granted us permission to share images of related children modeling the joy of receiving a pillowcase or baby blanket. We think this universal experience translates to the children that we do not get to meet.

Happy June...with nearly 200 pillowcases headed to the border for distribution to children. Yes, Mathew and I have been super busy. We have established relationships in El Paso with Borderland Ministries / Ojinaga, Casa Papa Francisco, and Annunciation House. Each of these venues will be able to deliver the pillowcases to children-in-need in border shelters and orphanages.   

We are so excited and appreciative of the work these new partners engage in to ensure that safety and love surround these little ones. Our pillowcases are sure to help with that! This batch includes cool cats, dancing cows, bicycling chickens, leaping frogs, and so much more...guaranteed to produce smiles, joy, and a reminder that "you are loved."
